Textos en inglés: divertidas lecturas en inglés para niños de Primaria

La revista para aprender inglés I Love English Junior nos ha cedido algunos interesantes y divertidos textos en inglés para que los niños de Primaria puedan aprender nuevo vocabulario y mejoren su conocimiento del idioma. 

Se trata de lecturas en inglés sobre curiosidades relacionadas con temas muy distintos y, todas ellas, comienzan con: 10 amazing facts about... (10 hechos sorprendentes sobre...)

En definitia, desde la redacción de I Love English Junior, una revista diridia a niños entre 8 y 12 años, nos proponen una serir de lecturas que pueden resultar intersantes a los niños, no solo porque la temática les va a resultar atractiva, sino porque además, les permitirá mejorar su nivel de inglés de foma amena.

1. Eagles are large and powerful birds. That?s why they are a symbol of power and freedom, and for many they are "The king of Birds". They can fly at over 3,000 metres high and reach a speed of about 56-70 kph when gliding or flapping. They are also very strong and can carry heavy loads of up to 6 kg (around 15 pounds). 

2. There are more than 60 eagle species, which vary in height, length and weight depending on the environment they live in. For instance, those living in forests have shorter wingspans, while eagles that live in open areas have longer wingspans. Their average wingspan is around 2 metres (6 feet).

1. In 1666 a devastating fire swept through the central parts of London, destroying 13,200 houses, 87 churches, and St. Paul's Cathedral, among others. The event is known as The Great Fire of London. The rebuilding of London took over 30 years. The site where the fire started is now marked by an outstanding monument that is 61 metres tall.

2. The most famous clock in London is... yes, Big Ben. It's probably the most iconic imagen in London. Big Ben is actually the name of the huge bell inside the clock of the Houses of Parliament. Every hour a hammer strikes the time on it. If it is four o'clock, the hammer strikes it four times. Big Ben also refers to the clock tower itself.

1. Butterflies are wonderful insects. People who study or collect butterflies are called lepidopterists. They are biologists or zoologists who specialize in the behaviour and evolution of butterfly species.

2. Butterflies play an important role in pollinating the plants, flowers and vegetables that we need on the earth. There are about 18,000 species of butterfly. Along with moths, they are the only group of insects that have scales. 

3. The world's largest species of butterfly by wingspan is the Queen Alexandra's Birdwing (28 cm). It was named after Queen Alexandra of Denmark! Unfortunately, it can only be found in Papua New Guinea and is endangered. The world's smallest butterfly has a wingspan of 0.5-1,3 cm.

Inglés para niños: 10 amazing facts about the zebras

1. Zebras live in vast areas of eastern and southern Africa. Their preferred habitat are treeless grasslands and savannah woodlands. Unfortunately, their habitat is shrinking and even extinct in Lesotho and Burundi, two of the countries which they're native to. 

2. Zebras live in herds or small family groups consisting of a male, called stallion, which leads the group, several females and their young or babies. The group remains so close that if a predator injures one individual, fellow members will circle it and attempt to scare the intruder away.

3. Zebras are related to horses -both belong to the Equidae family-, but they're not the same species. In fact, zebras are closer to donkeys than to horses in terms of conformation. Zebras range in height from about 1.2-1.5 metres, whereas a horse can grow up to 1.8 metres.

Inglés para niños: 10 amazing facts about the world's largest and fastest animals

1. Among land animals, the cheetah is the fastest in the world, reaching 112 km/h in just three seconds! Their long legs, elongated spine and long muscular tail with a flat shape for balance and steering enable cheetahs to be adapted for speed. Sprinting at such a fast speed requires a lot of energy, so their chase is usually limited to 200-300 m. That is why cheetahs are considered sprinters, not long distance runners.

2. The Pronghorn antelope is the second fastest land animal, sprinting at 98 km/h. It can sustain high speeds longer than cheetahs. Another of the fastest antelope species in the world is the Blue wildebeest, which can run at about 80 km/h, almost matching the top speed of a lion or a gazelle, and not only when being chased.

3. 88 km/h is the top speed of the world's fastest horses. Quarter horses have reached this speed, the fastest recorded of any horse ever. This horse breed originated about the 1660s as a cross between native horses of Spanish origin used by the earliest colonists and English horses imported to the United States.
